UFC 330 Main Event Betting Tips

UFC 330 goes down this weekend, and with a blockbuster main event, an interesting co-main event and plenty more to discuss further down the card, we take a look at some of the props to watch heading into Philadelphia’s main event.

Islam Makhachev to Win via Submission +210

The UFC 330 main event sees the pound-for-pound number one fighter on the planet, Islam Makhachev, return to action to defend his welterweight title. He takes on the in-form, confident Ian Machado Garry.

Makhachev is undefeated in his last 16 fights, winning seven by submission. Many see this one as a striker vs grappler, with Garry preferring life on the feet and Makhachev favouring the ground.

We know that Makhachev is an elite grappler and won the belt by taking Jack Della Maddalena down, controlling him for 19:10 of their 25-minute fight and ultimately stealing his will. Could he do the same to Garry?

Although Garry’s takedown defence sits at a very respectable 80%, his lone career loss saw him controlled for 11:41 by Shavkat Rakhmonov. It was the control time that won Rakhmonov that fight as Garry outstruck him 103 to 65.

If Makhachev can get Garry to the ground, expect him to search for submissions.

Ian Garry to win via Decision +450

Could the Irish get one back? Khabib Nurmagomedov put Russia 1-0 when he submitted Conor McGregor in 2018, and Garry will look to get one back for his country at UFC 330. 

Garry is on a strong run of form, having defeated both Carlos Prates and, more recently, Belal Muhammad. The win over Prates in particular has aged extremely well as the Brazilian is looking like a killer in recent times.

Should Garry win, it’s unlikely that he’ll finish Makhachev as he hasn’t recorded a finish since 2023 when he TKO’d Daniel Rodriguez. Since then, he’s won five, all via decision.

If he can stop the takedown of Makhachev, which he showed he’s capable of doing as we saw against Muhammad, he must use his length, jab and activity to outpoint the champion.

Could Ian Garry’s ‘worst case scenario’ come true? Speaking on the High Performance podcast, the Irishman stated that he didn’t want to be held down for 25 minutes. There’s a chance that this happens, however.

Against JDM, Makhachev dominated the Australian by simply controlling him and not doing a tonne of damage. If he does the same against Garry, it won’t be pretty, but it’ll be effective.
