Khamzat Chimaev's training partner Brendan Allen believes a 'peak' Chimaev would have destroyed Sean Strickland in 90 seconds.

The clash between UFC Middleweight Champion Sean Strickland and Khamzat Chimaev delivered plenty of drama, but not everyone is bought into the final outcome. Top middleweight contender Brendan Allen recently weighed in on the matchup, offering a bold perspective backed by his personal experience sharing the mats with Chimaev.

Having spent rigorous sparring sessions alongside Chimaev in training camp, Allen insists the version of the Chechen-born fighter who stepped into the Octagon against Strickland was a far cry from his true potential. In fact, Allen believes a peak version of Chimaev would have dismantled both Strickland and that specific night's version of himself without breaking a sweat.

The Disparity Between Training and Fight Night

According to Allen, the gap between Chimaev’s gym form and his fight-night performance was night and day. While Strickland earned praise for his defensive wrestling, relentless jab, and late-round cardio, Allen feels Chimaev’s reduced output made Strickland look far better than he actually was.

“The Khamzat I trained with would have finished that Khamzat in a minute and 30 seconds max,” Allen claimed.

Allen didn't stop at critiquing Chimaev's conditioning and pacing, either. He also made it clear that he didn't believe Strickland won the fight in the first place, joining a vocal group of fans and analysts who scored the razor-close contest for Chimaev.

In a UFC division where momentum and narrative shift with every event, gym rumors often spark fierce debates among fight fans. Strickland has built his reputation on dragging elite grapplers into exhausting striking battles and frustrating their game plans. However, Allen’s breakdown suggests that Chimaev’s biggest obstacle wasn't Strickland’s unorthodox defense, but rather an off-night of his own making. Whether Chimaev eventually gets a second crack at Strickland to prove Allen right remains to be seen, but the debate over his true ceiling in the middleweight division is far from settled.
