Ciryl Gane vs. Josh Hokit officially announced for UFC 334 undisputed heavyweight title fight

Tom Aspinall vacated the UFC heavyweight title a few days ago because of his lingering eye injuries. Alex Pereira and Josh Hokit both were calling out the interim heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane, and it's Hokit who got the undisputed title fight booked against the interim champion.

During the broadcast of UFC 331, the promotion's official announced that Gane and Hokit will throw down for the undisputed UFC heavyweight belt in the headliner of UFC 334, set to go down at Madison Square Garden on November 14. 

Gane became the interim champion after knocking out Alex Pereira in the co-main event of UFC Freedom 250. Now, he will put his all into becoming the undisputed champion, having previously failed to capture the belt 3 times. 

The Frenchman got his first opportunity to become the undisputed champion against Francis Ngannou at UFC 270, where he lost via unanimous decision. Then, in his second undisputed title opportunity, he faced all-time MMA great Jon Jones and was submitted in the first round. 

In his third opportunity, Gane squared off against Aspinall last year in October at UFC 321. He had success in striking exchanges but accidentally eye-poked the champion. The Brit couldn't continue, and the bout was declared a no-contest. 

Meanwhile, Hokit has quickly risen through the heavyweight division. He finished three opponents in his four UFC fights and had just one decision victory. The American has a perfect record of 10 wins in his professional career. 

In his most recent UFC outing, Hokit delivered an impressive performance against veteran Derrick Lewis and secured a second-round knockout victory at UFC Freedom 250. 

This Gane vs. Hokit is not the only title fight on the UFC 334 card, as in the co-main event, Kayla Harrison is set to defend her bantamweight title against UFC legend Amanda Nunes. 

Harrison and Nunes were originally scheduled to fight at UFC 324 in January, which was headlined by an interim lightweight title fight between Paddy Pimblett and Justin Gaethje. 

However, the reigning women’s bantamweight champion withdrew from the bout after suffering a severe neck injury. 

With the undisputed heavyweight championship on the line in the main event and the women's bantamweight title in the co-main event, UFC 334 looks promising to deliver an exciting night for MMA fans.
