Colby Covington Says Islam Makhachev Would Easily Submit Carlos Prates In ‘Easiest Fight Of His Career’

Colby Covington weighed in on Islam Makhachev's next fight, saying the Dagestani's wrestling is on a completely different level and that he can dominate the top welterweights with ease. Makhachev recently defended his welterweight belt for the first time with a win over Ian Garry.

However, there are big names like Carlos Prates, Michael Morales, and Shavkat Rakhmonov who could give him some trouble. Covington, though, doesn't see Prates as a real threat if that fight gets made next.

Colby Covington Calls Carlos Prates The 'Easiest Fight' For Islam Makhachev

Many have been saying that Carlos Prates has the tools to knock Makhachev out. Covington couldn't disagree more, believing the welterweight champion would take Prates down and submit him without breaking a sweat. ‘Chaos’ told Ariel Helwani:

"Nah, no chance, bro. Carlos has nothing for him. He's just a straight striker. That's going to be the easiest fight of Makhachev's career. He's going to take him down and submit him... He needs to quit smoking cigarettes if he ever wants to be a legitimate champion."

Covington also took a shot at Prates for smoking cigarettes, saying he needs to quit if he is serious about becoming a champion. He also shared his thoughts on Makhachev's wrestling abilities in a different context.

Colby Covington Claims Jordan Burroughs Would Easily Beat Islam Makhachev

Covington believes Makhachev would struggle badly against American wrestler Jordan Burroughs in a freestyle wrestling match, saying Burroughs would beat the Dagestani by technical fall without too many problems. During his recent interview with Ariel Helwani, he said:

"In freestyle wrestling, Makhachev has no chance, you know? Burroughs is going to tech-fall him. It's just going to be an easy match... but Makhachev has been committing the last 20, 25 years to MMA."

Covington pointed out that Makhachev has dedicated the last two decades to MMA, which is a very different discipline from traditional freestyle wrestling. Fans are now curious to see if the 34-year-old would ever give RAF a shot, where several other MMA stars have already been competing.
