Former Opponent Predicts Alexander Volkanovski vs Movsar Evloev at UFC 333
Diego Lopes, a man who has fought both the champion and the challenger at UFC 333, has made his prediction on the fight.
If there is anyone on the planet who could make an informed prediction about the UFC 333 main event, it's the UFC 335 main eventer, Diego Lopes.
The Mexican faced off with the UFC 333 challenger, Movsar Evloev, in his UFC debut, coming up short via decision. He also knows a thing or two about Alexander Volkanovski, a man whom he has faced twice and come up short against on both occasions.
Speaking to MMA Junkie Radio, Lopes said, "This is a tough fight for both. So, I don't know if Movsar can put pressure on Volkanovski in the cage, on the ground. I still think Volk. He beat me two times, so I know he's still here. I still think Volkanovski can take that. He's a big legend in this sport."
The 'two times' Lopes is referring to are Volkanovski's more recent two outings. He first beat Lopes at UFC 314 in a competitive fight of the night. The second time he beat him was in February of this year. Again, in a fight of the night effort, Lopes came up more convincingly short on the second occasion.
Although Lopes suggests that he thinks Volkanovski will retain his belt at UFC 333, he's aware that the division could open up with an Evloev win in Abu Dhabi, "the door would open at '45."
History in the Making?
Alexander Volkanovski is going into Abu Dhabi looking to break the record for the record number of title wins in the UFC featherweight division. He tied Jose Aldo's record at UFC 325 when he beat Lopes, but a win over Evloev will cement his place in the history books.
A win at UFC 333 will see him become the first man to defeat Movsar Evloev, again putting him in the history books.
It won't be an easy task for the Australian as his opponent is looking to go 21-0.
