Josh Hokit Shares Surprising Advice on Why Taking Risks Beats Overthinking

Josh Hokit shares surprising advice, explaining why taking risks can be better than overthinking.
The UFC has plenty of controversial fighters, from Sean Strickland to Bryce Mitchell. Josh Hokit is another one, and he's rubbed people the wrong way more than once, from Michelle Obama's comments to 9/11 jokes. So it was a bit surprising when he came out with a message for anyone who feels dumb or thinks their IQ is low: be glad about it. And it seems it comes straight from how he lives his own life, which is to jump in first and worry about looking foolish later.
Josh Hokit Says Being Dumb Is Actually An Advantage
According to Hokit, the smarter person is stuck in their own head, worrying about how they'll look if it goes wrong, and never makes a move. Hokit says guys like him don't care about looking foolish, and that puts them in a great spot. His point was simple: the one who acts, even a clumsy one, will beat the brilliant one who just sits there.
“If you're stupid, if you're retarded, if you got low IQ gang thank God right now. Because you're stupid enough to take the risk. Where the high IQ. He's in his mind. He's overthinking. He's too scared to risk it. Too scared to look stupid. We're the stupid people. We don't care. You're in the perfect spot. So thank God you're stupid. And now go for it. The idiot in motion will always beat the genius at rest. Always gang,” Hokit said.
Hokit didn't put it in the nicest way, but the advice itself makes sense. Someone who keeps showing up, works hard, and doesn't let fear of failure hold them back will usually get better results than someone who's smart but never acts on it.
Michael Bisping Shares Why Josh Hokit Is So Effective
Bisping broke down what makes Hokit so hard to deal with. He said the American fighter comes forward and throws in a pretty wild way, but between his takedown threat, his speed, his output, and the way he never stops moving forward, he ends up catching a lot of people.
Bisping said, “Now, Josh Hokit goes forward, throws kind of recklessly, but because of his takedown threat, because of his speed, because of his output, because of the constant forward momentum, he catches a lot of people.”
That style will get tested soon, because Hokit is set to fight Ciryl Gane for the UFC heavyweight title in November at UFC 334. Hokit has already pulled off some big wins over guys like Derrick Lewis and Curtis Blaydes. If he can do it one more time against Gane, he walks out as the new heavyweight champ.
