Justin Gaethje Says Ilia Topuria’s “Fake World” Led to His Downfall

In any sport, fans have often heard athletes talk about mindset. Every legend, no matter what the sport is, has said that mindset is more important than skills, as it can make or break a person. Talking about the same mindset, there are thousands of videos of Ilia Topuria where he has shared how being delusional made him a champion. However, now, talking about Topuria’s mindset, champion Justin Gaethje has said that the same delusional mindset has led to his downfall.

Justin Gaethje Says Ilia Topuria Had the Wrong Mindset

Talking on the Flagrant podcast, Gaethje took a shot at Topuria’s mindset, saying ‘El Matador’ started believing he could never lose. However, as per the champ, nobody is unbeatable and feels Topuria created a fake world around himself. He also pointed out how the Spaniard used to celebrate and update his bio even before the fight, saying things might not change, but now he is doing it as a loser.

“I think he created a fake world, and that kind of way he performed and it worked for him. Like believing he’s invincible, unbeatable. That’s not possible. Nobody’s invincible. Having parties, updating his bio - so it’s kind of the same, but as a loser now,” Gaethje said.

To put things in context, Topuria has always changed his bio, adding the win to his record even before the fight. Not only that, he has even celebrated before fights, showing that he believes he is unbeatable. He did the same thing at UFC Freedom 250, but it didn’t go in his favor. He lost the fight on the stool, which left everyone shocked.

Justin Gaethje Wants to See Ilia Topuria Become Champion Again

Earlier, Gaethje praised ‘El Matador’ and said he wants to see him become champion again. The champion believes Topuria is still one of the best fighters in the world despite the mental mistakes he made. He also feels the former lightweight champion can come back stronger, just like he did after losing to Max Holloway. ‘The Highlight’ believes Topuria now has a chance to inspire people with his comeback.

Gaethje stated, “Outside of that, without those mental mistakes, he is one of the best in the world, there’s no doubt about it. I’m never talking sh-t about him, because he’s so good. I want to see him come back, I want to see him thrive, I want to see him prosper.”

The American champion has hinted that he is unsure if he will ever fight again. Thus, Topuria may next face Arman Tsarukyan for the title.
