With Aljamain Sterling out, Mitch Gagnon now fins himself in an equally interesting contest against Rob Font in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

UFC officials confirmed the contest late Monday.

Font (11-1) is a former CES featherweight champion. He most recently made both his UFC and divisional debut at bantamweight when he took on veteran George Roop at UFC 175 in July. Font was sure to impress, as he knocked George Roop out in a little over two minutes of the first round. He made his debut in spectacular fashion, which is why he would earn a ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus.

Gagnon (11-2) has yet to fight outside of Canada in his career. He is 3-1 since joining the UFC, with that one loss coming in his debut to contender Bryan Caraway. Since then he has defeated Tim Gorman by decision, and has submitted Walel Watson and Dustin Kimura. The latter earned him ‘Submission of the Night’ at UFC 165.

The bouts placement on the card is unknown at this time, but it will for sure be on the televised portion of the card.

UFC Fight Night 54 takes place on October 4 in Halifax, Nova Scotia at the Scotiabank Centre.
