UFC on ABC 3 Results

The UFC is back in New York as they head to Long Island for a top-five featherweight showdown in the main event as MMASucka provides live UFC on ABC 3 results. In that main event, former two-time UFC title challenger, Brian Ortega faces off against the third-ranked featherweight Yair Rodriguez.

UFC on ABC 3 – Main Event

Coming into this matchup, Brian Ortega holds a 2-1 record in his last three fights. After six straight wins following a no contest in his UFC debut, Ortega got his first shot at the title in 2018 when he faced Max Hollway at UFC 231. In that fight, Holloway dominated Ortega as the doctor would have to call a stop to the fight at the end of the fourth round due to the damage on Ortega’s face.

Following that loss, Ortega returned to the octagon in 2020 when he faced Chan Sung Jung in the main event of UFC Fight Night 180. He bounced back with a big win that night as he defeated The Korean Zombie by unanimous decision to lock up another title shot. This time around, he would face the new champion, Alexander Volkanovski.

His fight with Volkanovski was unfortunately another mostly one-sided contest as Volkanovski went on to defeat him by unanimous decision. Ortega had some huge moments in the third round though, locking the champion up in some very tight chokes, but eventually, Volkanovski would break loose. If Ortega can pick up another win over a top contender when he faces Rodriguez, he could lock up another title shot.

As for Rodriguez, he has not fought since his main event matchup with Max Holloway in November at UFC Vegas 42 where Holloway defeated him by unanimous decision. Prior to that fight, Rodriguez had not competed since 2019 when he defeated Jeremy Stephens by unanimous decision at UFC on ESPN 6. Rodriguez will look to pick up possibly his biggest win yet and put himself in position for his first title shot.

UFC on ABC 3 – Co-Main Event

In the co-main event, top-fifteen contenders in the women’s strawweight division face off as Michelle Waterson-Gomez faces Amanda Lemos. Dating back to the later half of 2019, Waterson holds a record of 1-3. In October 2019, she lost to former strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk in the main event of UFC Fight Night 161. Following that loss, Waterson went on to face Carla Esparza at UFC 249 where she would lose by split decision.

In her next fight, she snapped the two fight losing streak with a split decision win over Angela Hill in the main event of UFC Fight Night 177. Unfortunately she suffered another loss in her most recent fight, which took place over a year ago, as she lost by unanimous decision to Marina Rodriguez in another main event at UFC Vegas 26.

Lemos will be entering the fight coming off a loss in her most recent outing after she started her UFC career 5-1. The loss snapped a five fight win streak that she had going since she lost her debut fight against Leslie Smith at UFC Fight Night 113. Defeating her in her most recent fight was former strawweight champion Jessica Andrade as she finished Lemos with a standing arm triangle in the first round of their main event at UFC Vegas 52.

UFC on ABC 3 – Main Card

Kicking things off on the main card will be a women’s flyweight fight that was originally supposed to take place at UFC Vegas 54 between Lauren Murphy and former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate. Murphy has not fought since she challenger Valentina Shevchenko for the title and failed as she was finished by TKO in round four at UFC 266. As for Tate, she has made two appearances since “retiring” in 2016 with a record of 1-1 between those two bouts. In her comeback fight, she finished Marion Reneau by TKO in the third round at UFC Vegas 31. In her most recent fight, Tate suffered a loss to Ketlen Vieira by unanimous decision in the main event of UFC Vegas 43.

Following that fight will be a featherweight fight between Shane Burgos and Charles Jourdain. Burgos will be entering the fight coming off a unanimous decision win over Billy Quarantillo at UFC 268 that snapped a two fight losing streak. As for Jourdain, he brings in two straight wins following a unanimous decision win over Andre Ewell at UFC Vegas 45, followed by a submission win over Lando Vannata in round one of their UFC Vegas 52 meeting.

The third fight on the main card features a flyweight fight between Ultimate Fighter alum Matt Schnell and Sumudaerji. Coming into this fight, Schnell has not won a fight since he beat Tyson Nam at UFC on ESPN 20 in January 2021. Since then, he lost a UD to Rogerio Bontorin that was eventually changed to a no contest after Bontorin tested positive for a banned substance. In his most recent fight, Schnell lost to Brandon Royval by submission in the first round of their meeting at UFC 274. As for Sumudaerji, he has not fought since that same night Schnell picked up his last win. In that fight, he would pick up UD win over Zarrukh Adashev for his third straight win.

Finally, before the strawweight co-main event will be a matchup in the welterweight division between Li Jingliang and Muslim Salikhov. Jingliang holds a 1-1 record in his last two fights, both occurring during 2021. He started the year with a first round knockout win over Santiago Ponzinibbio at UFC on ABC 1. After that, he would go on to be submitted by Khamzat Chimaev during their fight at UFC 267. Salikhov will be entering the fight on a five fight win streak with his three most recent coming by way of decision over Laureano StaropoliElizeu Zaleski dos Santos, and Francisco Trinaldo.
