Former UFC Welterweight Takes On New Role As DWCS 93 Looms
With a 17-7-0 record when he hung up the gloves, Alan Jouban knew exactly what it felt like to walk into the Octagon with everything on the line.
The 43-year-old former UFC welterweight is set to make his debut in the color commentary booth for DWCS on Tuesday, joining the telecast for DWCS 93.
It is a natural progression for someone who has remained closely connected to the UFC since stepping away from competition. "Brahma" has become a familiar face as a desk analyst in recent years, offering insight from the perspective of a fighter who spent more than seven years competing inside the promotion. But come Tuesday, he will have a different responsibility.
Instead of breaking down fights from a studio desk, Jouban will be sitting cageside as 10 aspiring UFC fighters try to make the kind of impression that can change the direction of their careers overnight.
Alan Jouban Gets a Different View of the UFC
Alan Jouban's own UFC journey ended in November 2021, when he defeated Jared Gooden by unanimous decision at UFC 255. He finished his Octagon career with an 8-5 record across 13 UFC appearances, with wins over Mike Perry, Belal Muhammad, Matt Dwyer Price, and Ben Saunders during his run with the promotion.
And since his last Octagon appearance, the veteran has hardly disappeared from the fight scene. In fact, Jouban has become a regular presence as an analyst, putting the experience accumulated during his fighting career to use in a different way.
Previously, he had also called fights for Road to UFC and regional action under the LFA banner.That background makes Tuesday's assignment feel less like a sudden career change and more like the next step.
There is also something fitting about Jouban making his Contender Series commentary debut during an event built around fighters chasing their own UFC opportunity.
DWCS 93 Puts Jouban Around UFC's Next Wave
DWCS 93 is the seventh episode of the 10th anniversary season of Dana White's Contender Series, with five fights scheduled at the Meta APEX. All 10 competitors successfully made weight Monday, clearing the way for Tuesday night's card.
Norbert Novenyi Jr. and Theo Haig will headline the event at middleweight, while Jaden Ortega and Alvi Dasuyev will meet in the welterweight co-main event. The rest of the card features Marcos Degli vs. Paris Moran at flyweight, Callum Connor vs. Pierre Guaylupo at lightweight, and Damian Piwowarczyk vs. Emilio Quissuad at light heavyweight.
While for the fighters involved, the stakes are straightforward. Impress Uncle Dana and earn a UFC contract. But for Jouban, the night represents something different.
