Ryan Gandra reveals One Reason Why he Wants to Fight Israel Adesanya

Israel Adesanya was once a force to be reckoned with. Defeating the likes of Alex Pereira and more, ‘Izzy’ ruled his division. Unfortunately, in recent times, the former UFC champion’s form has been on a bit of a downward slope. While Adesanya aims to make a comeback, ‘The Last Stylebender’ seems to have a new challenge incoming. 

At UFC 331, middleweight star Ryan Gandra locked horns with Ozzy Diaz. Gandra dominated his opponent and secured a swift knockout victory. Following the win, the middleweight star issued a bold callout. He said, “Hey, Izzy Adesanya! Don't run from me. I'm here. I'm the nightmare of this division." 

The UFC star later explained, “He's a guy who's fought Anderson Silva and . It's not out of disrespect. I want to be among those names.”

Gandra has been one of the most exciting emerging stars of the UFC. Since starting his career, he has secured three consecutive knockout victories. Not only that, the UFC middleweight star also has less than a total of one round of fight time till now. 

What’s Next for Israel Adesanya?

Adesanya had his last win in the UFC three years back. Beating Alex Pereira for the championship, ‘Izzy’ looked to be in command. However, things quickly went downhill. Adesanya lost his title to Sean Strickland immediately in the following bout. After waiting for his turn to get a second shot at the title, the former champion once again lost. This time to Dricus Du Plessis. 

Trying to climb his way back up, Adesanya faced Nassourdine Imavov back in February 2025. Surprisingly, ‘Izzy’ suffered a knockout victory, harming his chances of advancing in the title race significantly. Things only got worse from here.

Facing Joe Pyfer next, Adesanya had to take another loss, with critics arguing that the 37-year-old should consider hanging up his gloves.
