Alexander Volkov Claims Josh Hokit is the "Easiest Matchup" in Title Picture

Alexander Volkov does not see Josh Hokit as a serious contender in the heavyweight division and claims he is the easiest path to a title if he becomes champion.
UFC heavyweight contender Alexander Volkov has his eye set on an easy path to championship gold. With an upcoming title clash scheduled between heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane and undefeated challenger Josh Hokit at UFC 334, "Drago" sees a golden opportunity, provided the outcome swings in a specific direction.
In a recent interview with journalist Helen Yee, Volkov offered his breakdown of the main event matchup. While acknowledging Gane’s technical pedigree, the towering Russian admitted he is quietly rooting for the underdog for purely selfish reasons.
"Of course Ciryl Gane has more chances to win, speaking seriously about it," Volkov said. "But it's never predictable... For me, the best way will be if Josh Hokit wins and I win my fight and we meet in a title shot. For me it will be the easiest fight ever. Easiest title shot as I see it."
Stylistic Advantages and Heavyweight Ambitions
Volkov's bold claim stems from years of fighting at the absolute top of the division. Ranked No. 2 in the official UFC heavyweight rankings with a 40-11 professional record, Volkov boasts a 6-foot-7 frame and an 80-inch reach. That physical presence would present a steep physical hurdle for Hokit, who stands 6-foot-1 with a 73-inch reach.
Hokit, currently ranked No. 4 with an unblemished 10-0 record (4-0 inside the Octagon), has taken the division by storm with his Division I wrestling background and an explosive rate of 10.28 significant strikes landed per minute. Yet, Volkov believes Hokit’s aggressive, forward-marching style plays directly into his long-range striking and distance control.
Having already shared the Octagon with Gane in 2021, Volkov understands the movement and kickboxing problems the current champion presents. A match against Hokit for the title, however, represents the ultimate ideal scenario in Volkov's eyes. If Hokit pulls off the upset at UFC 334, expect Volkov to be first in line calling his shot.
